The company was incorporated in 1976 as a private limited company and later in 1992 converted into a public limited company. The company has been promoted by V.G. Jain, T.G.M. Nagaraj and T.G. VEeraprasad. The company commenced production in 1977. The company is engaged in the desing and manufacture of machinery for paper and pulp industry and parts thereof. Later on, the company diversified into the manufacturing of LPG cylinders with an installed capacity of 2 lakh nos. p.a. The company's manufacturing facilities are located at Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. The company supplies paper pulps to leading paper mills in the country. The company also ventured into exports and it is the first Indian company to execute a paper project abroad in Guyana. TMTL has bagged export orders worth US $5.50 million for the middle east and the U.S. as well. TMTL's main strength lies in the design and research and development. The company has a technical collaboration with Young IL Iron Works, South Korea and Warburton Holgate Ltd., U.K. for specialty paper and drinking systems. TMTL has won several awards including the Regional Top Exporters Shield for project exports from the Engineering Exports Promotion Council in 1990-91 and the Best Exporters Award from Government of Andhra Pradesh for two consecutive years in 1990-91 and 1991-92.
