Gwalior Tanks & Vessels Limited was originally incorporated as a Private Limited Company under the name and style of Gwalior Tanks & Vessels Private Limited and obtained the Certificate of Incorporation from the Registrar of Companies, Madhya Pradesh at Gwalior on December 4, 1990. The Company was subsequently converted into a Public Limited Company pursuant to the provisions of Section 23 of the Companies Act, 1956 and the Special Resolution passed by the Company at its Extra-Ordinary General Meeting held on December 14, 1994. The Company obtained fresh Certificate of Incorporation consequent on change of name on December 21, 1994.

The Company set up its first unit to manufacture Hi-tech Heavy Steel Fabrication Tanks required for Power Transformers at Malanpur Industrial Area, Dist. Bhind, Madhya Pradesh with an licensed capacity of 960 MT p.a. and installed capacity of 720 MT p.a in 1993-94. The installed capacity was increased to 840 MT p.a. during the financial year 1995-96. This unit started its commercial production from June 1, 1993 and achieved a capacity utilisation of more than 110% in 1996, the third year of its commercial production.
