బ్యాంకింగ్ రంగాన్ని, ముఖ్యంగా ప్రభుత్వరంగ బ్యాంకుల ఉనికిని ప్రశ్నార్థకం చేస్తున్న మొండి బకాయిల (నిరర్థక ఆస్తులు లేదా ఎన్‌పిఎ) సమస్య పరిష్కారానికి రిజర్వ్ బ్యాంక్ ఆఫ్ ఇండియా (ఆర్‌బీఐ) తీవ్రంగా కృషి చేస్తోందని కేంద్ర ఆర్థిక శాఖ మంత్రి అరుణ్ జైట్లీ తెలిపారు. సోమవారం ఇక్కడ ఆయన ప్రభుత్వరంగ బ్యాంకుల అధిపతులతో సమావేశమయ్యారు.

కాగా, ప్రభుత్వరంగ బ్యాంకుల విలీనానికీ ప్రభుత్వం తీవ్రంగా ప్రయత్నిస్తోందని తెలిపారు.2016-17లో ప్ర‌భుత్వ రంగ బ్యాంకులు 1.5 ల‌క్ష‌ల కోట్ల రూపాయ‌ల నిర్వ‌హ‌ణ లాభాన్ని గ‌డించాయి. అయితే మొండి బ‌కాయిల‌కు చేసిన కేటాయింపుల మూలంగా కేవ‌లం నిక‌ర లాభం రూ.574 కోట్లుగా మాత్ర‌మే ఉండ‌టం గ‌మ‌నార్హం.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday took stock of the finances of public sector banks as also the resolution of bad loans or non performing assets (NPAs), with heads of the lenders.Besides NPA resolution and bank finances, the meeting also featured the government's financial inclusion schemes.Jaitley said that the Reserve Bank of India is in an advanced state of preparing a list of bad loans where resolution is required under the insolvency and bankruptcy rule. Also, the government is actively working on consolidation of state-owned banks.Public sector banks made a “stable operating profit” of Rs 1.5 lakh crore in 2016-17 and had a net profit at Rs 574 crore after making due provisions.
